The IRS received the information - appropriate form and a copy of the tax return - on Feb. 7th or so. I wondered how long it will be until this person receives a notice of audit.

Quite frankly the IRS gets a lot of these types of cases, and they will sort them by value–amount of fraud, collectibility, chance for fast recovery, and then work top down. No one knows for sure what the timetable may be, and it could vary greatly depending on the area of the country. To answer your primary question, if this individual is your current husband, you may hear him screaming from afar. If you still live together, you will most definitely know. I would assume that he will be seeking the services of a tax fraud attorney as soon as he is made aware of this problem.
